Battle Report: The Trap at the Mine Workings
One of the only industries still worked in Sector G12. The mines echoed with the relentless hum of machinery, masking the careful movements of The Entourage as they set their ambush. The Graven Golems, marching confidently into the territory and, seeing no challengers, believed they had claimed an extra prize—a valuable loot cache resting at the heart of the Mine Workings. Little did they know, it was a trap set by the bounty hunter Entourage.
Close to the Entourage’s hidden position, a second crate was stashed. While the squats eagerly investigated their supposed reward, The Entourage cracked open their own supply and found exactly what they had prepared: an ammo cache, stocked for the ambush ahead. The squats found nothing but a handful of credits—but the lure worked and they sprung trap they had unknowingly walked into.
A Sudden Strike
The Entourage wasted no time springing their ambush. With the first move of the battle, Prudent Ironfist sent a grenade sailing into the squat lines, sending one of the Kyn flying and wounding another. Chaos erupted as the wounded squat desperately crawled across open ground, seeking cover and aid from his comrades. The betrayal cut deep—squat turning weapons on squat, their kin choosing the company of bounty hunters over blood.
But the Graven Golems quickly regrouped. Disciplined and working in tight formation, they answered the ambush with a hail of autogun fire. Excavator and Dredger led the retaliation, riddling members of The Entourage with bullets, forcing them into cover, and turning the ambush into a brutal firefight.
Attrition
As the first bodies fell for either side, each began to consider their exits. The resolve of the fighters was tested and both bottled but couldn't fully escape the fight.
Charter Master Graven Iron-Shaper barked words of encouragement, calling on his kin to honour their ancestors and hold the line. Meanwhile, Sir Hugo of The Entourage had a more practical motivation: reminding his men of the bounties waiting to be collected and promised increased shares.
The battlefield turned into a slow, grinding exchange of fire. The ironhead squat prospectors were pinned on a storage facility rooftop and had to toss smoke grenades to block The Entourage’s sightlines. Rockets, grenades and slugs filled the air. One devastating explosion saw Boone—the gang’s giant pet rat—caught in a blast from a seismic grenade.
Bounty Claimed in Blood
Just as it seemed the battle had reached a deadlock, Birdman—severely wounded but still clutching his Kroot rifle—lined up his shot. Through the haze of battle, he pulled the trigger, and with a single decisive shot, Charter Master Iron-Shaper fell.
Seeing their leader drop, the remaining Graven Golems scrambled to recover. They saw one of their kin had been captured in the fray, dragged off by The Entourage to collect a bounty and turned their shots towards Birdman, who cut his losses and slinked off. Borys, seeing he was the last standing member of The Entourage, weighed his options; the battle was lost, but the job was done. With a final glance at the battlefield, he turned and disappeared into the tunnels, leaving the Graven Golems to claim their territory.
Aftermath: A Pyrrhic Victory
The Graven Golems may have won the battle, securing control of the Mine Workings, but they did so at a heavy price. One of their champions had perished outright, their name etched into the halls of the dead. Another had been taken, their fate now uncertain in the hands of bounty hunters with no loyalty but to the highest bidder.
The Entourage had set a trap and, while they did not hold the ground in the end, they had achieved their true goal—profit. With a corpse to turn in and a captive to ransom or sell, their ledgers would reflect this battle as a success, even if the battlefield itself told a different story.
The mines of Necromunda never forget those who fall within them. The Graven Golems will remember this day, and The Entourage will count their credits. The question remains: when next they meet, will it be for another hunt, or for revenge?
